- Perform microbiological laboratory procedures according to appropriate safety standards
- Use a bright-field microscope to examine microbial cells
- Compare prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell structures and their functions
- Explain microbial growth requirements and key microbial metabolic processes
- Classify bacteria based on differentiating characteristics
- Assess the impact of microbial genetics on humans and the environment
- Evaluate processes to control the growth of microbes in the body and in the environment
- Summarize pathogenic and non-pathogenic host-microbe interactions
- Analyze patterns of microbial disease transmission using principles of epidemiology
- Summarize host defense mechanisms

The required digital course materials will be accessible via Canvas on or just prior to the first day of class.Ìý The fee for the materials is included as part of the ‘Digital Material Access Fee’ on your tuition statement. The optional purchase of a print version of the textbook is available through the ¸Ô±¾ÊÓÆµ Bookstore.
This class is taught through a combination of in-person and online instruction. Students will attend live portions of the class at the dates, times, and location specified. This blended class requires a face to face component for review, testing, and group work to help with retention.
